Kitchen Helpers

Kids love to help in the kitchen. This can apply to the classroom as well. Why don't you make your snack.

Make a salad. Have the kids rip the lettuce, wash it and put it in a salad spinner. Throw some carrots and raisins on top. They are more likely to eat something they made. Those that won't eat the lettuce will eat the raisins :)

In our class this month we will be making Hamentashen in our classroom. We will have them help us make the dough. Bring a large mixing bowl to mix all the pre-measured ingredients. They can use their hands, learn to use a rolling pin to roll it out, help us shape them and then pop them into a toaster oven. Now you had your activity and your snack.

FYI, We will be making ours hamentashen without eggs because we have a child with an egg allergy but also because then we don't have to worry about salmonella if someone takes a bite of the raw dough (which can happen with a 1 1/2 yr old). We will be attempting to substitute maple syrup for eggs. I will let you know how that turns out.
